What requirements do I need to meet to be a travel nurse?
There are four things you’ll need to become an MSG Staffing travel nurse:
What is the typical length of an MSG Staffing travel nurse assignment?
Typically, an assignment will last four to 13 weeks. You may be offered the opportunity to extend the assignment should circumstance warrant. Many of our nurses have stayed on assignment at a particular hospital for over a year, but this is never an expectation and is at the discretion of the employee. At MSG, we understand our nurses’ need for flexible scheduling and respect their right to extend or not extend, depending on their personal needs and lifestyle. There is never any pressure from our side
Where are your travel nursing jobs located?
We have assignments available all across the United States. For up-to-date information on our current job postings, visit our Job Search page. You can also sign up to receive announcements of the latest jobs by email (coming soon), or call us at 888-674-7676.
Will I get much notice before I have to travel to my assignment?
Again, that’s up to you. If you enjoy the excitement of flying to new locations on little notice, we can accommodate that. If you prefer to have a more leisurely preparation period, we can accommodate that, too. MSG has hundreds of job openings at any given time. This allows us to accommodate the unique needs and preferences of almost any nurse.
How many hours a week do MSG Staffing nurses work?
MSG travel nurse assignments have guaranteed hours. The number of hours depends on your specific assignment, and you may work 32 to 60 hours per week depending on the facility. Any hours you work over 40 per week are eligible for overtime pay. In California, any hours worked over 8 per day are overtime. When we say hours are guaranteed, we mean it. If your facility does not schedule the required hours or cancels your shift, MSG Staffing will pay you for the guaranteed hours, providing you were available to work.
How much and how often will I get paid?
While it can vary from assignment to assignment, MSG travel nurses typically earn far more than staff nurses, and our pay rates are among the highest in the travel nurse industry. MSG Travel nurses typically make up to $20,800 by the end of their 13-week assignments. All of our employees receive their paychecks weekly.
What kind of benefits can I receive?
Beyond the benefits of working when and where you want, we offer our nurses a highly attractive benefits package. Like our stunning pay scale, it’s one of the best in the industry and includes Medical and Dental, a 401(K) savings plan, free educational opportunities, licensing reimbursement and more.Click here to see the complete benefits listing.
Do you offer referral bonuses?
Absolutely – and the number of referral bonuses you can earn is unlimited. For every nurse you refer who is not in our current database and who completes an MSG assignment, we will pay you a referral bonus of between $500 and $1,500 depending on the specialty. Learn more about our Referral Bonus program.
Do I have to pay for my travel and housing?
No. MSG Staffing always pays for travel and housing. Plus, we arrange all the details for you, so all you have to do is pack your personal belongings and hop on the transportation we provide. The only thing you pay for out of pocket is the cost of ground transportation to and from your lodgings, which is reimbursed in your paychecks as an additional sum above your salary.
What kind of housing do you provide? Do I have a say in where I’ll be living?
We understand that being away from home can be tough. That’s why we work hard to provide safe, private and convenient housing options located as closely as possible to your assignment. Regardless of where your assignments take you, we’ll work diligently to find you housing that’s secure, clean, well-appointed and equipped with the amenities you need to be comfortable. If you have specific housing requirements, let us know, and we’ll do our best to accommodate them.
What if I want to pay for my housing? Can I receive a housing allowance?
Possibly. Talk to your recruiter to see if this option is available for the assignment you are considering.
There are some areas of a hospital that I prefer to work in – can I request a specific area?
Absolutely. We do our best to accommodate any specific requests as we have travel nursing positions available in many different specialty areas. You may even be given the opportunity to work in different hospital departments than the one you were first assigned, allowing you to gain even more valuable professional experience.
Will I be considered an employee or an independent contractor?
As an MSG Staffing nurse, you are an MSG Staffing employee. This means we withhold and pay all of your employment taxes, health insurance, and Workers’ Compensation. Additionally, you are eligible for our extensive employee benefits.
May I bring my pet?
If MSG Staffing is arranging your lodging arrangements, bringing a pet may be an option. Note, however, that you would be responsible for any costs associated with traveling with your pet. If you are paying privately for your accommodations and being reimbursed by MSG Staffing, your landlord would have the final say. Talk to your recruiter for details.
